Q: How do I change my broadband settings?
Q: What does contention ratio mean and what is TalkTalk Broadband’s contention ratio?
Contention ratio is the maximum number of people that you could be sharing a broadband connection with. For example a 50:1 ratio means that as a worst case you could be sharing the broadband pipe with up to 49 other users. So if they were all using it at the same, theoretically your broadband speed would be lower. However, in reality this scenario is very unlikely to happen and you should always find it to be far faster than a dial-up modem connection.
The contention ratio on TalkTalk Broadband is:
1Mb = 48-1
3Mb = 24-1
7.6Mb = 24-1
Q: How do I change my broadband settings?

Q: I currently use a dial up service to connect to the internet. Will it be cancelled automatically once my broadband is activated?
No. If you no longer require a dial up service you must request to disconnect this service even if it is with Talk Talk otherwise it will remain active and you will continue to be charged for this service.
Q: What is Broadband?
A: Broadband is a high-speed 'always on' Internet connection, much faster than a typical dial up Internet connection, which means no more waiting for websites to download and a much more exciting and enjoyable Internet experience.
Unlike dial-up, broadband also frees up your phone line so that you can also make and receive phone calls even while you are surfing the Internet. With TalkTalk Broadband, you are charged a fixed monthly rate so you can go online as often as you like with the peace of mind of knowing how much your bill will be.
Q: What does ADSL stand for?
A: Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. ADSL is a clever way of getting the most from a standard telephone line. It uses digital compression to squeeze a lot of data through a fairly small wire. Asymmetric refers to the fact that it downloads data much faster than it uploads it (which is perfect for the way most home users use the Internet).
