Information we collect and use
When you register, amongst other information necessary to process and complete your order, we need to know your name, e-mail address if you have one, mailing address, credit or debit card number and expiration date.

We will use this information for purposes related to providing the service (for example: support, quality control, billing, debt collection, credit control and credit reference agency searches, obtaining credit insurance and financing, the taking of security, assessment, analysis (including credit scoring and market, product and statistical analysis), research and assisting telecommunications bodies and regulators to investigate, deal with and prevent crimes including cases of fraud or suspected fraud. We or our agents may monitor or record calls made to or from, the customer service centre to ensure the quality of customer service, accuracy of information and to assist our business processes.
How does TalkTalk protect customer information?
Information we collect is stored on a secure server, which means it is not accessible to anyone outside the company, and is only made available to a Limited number of people within the company responsible for the fulfilment of your order or the maintenance of your service. Your information is accessible to you via our website and using a username and password. Access to your account is protected via a security certificate provided to us by VeriSign. This security certificate employs 128-bit encryption, which is the industry standard for secure communications. This prevents improper use and unauthorised access to your personal information. We will continue to enhance our security procedures as new technology becomes available.

TalkTalk will not read or disclose to third parties your private e-mail communications that are transmitted using our e-mail services except as required to operate the service or as otherwise authorised by law.

We may use individually identifiable information to investigate and help prevent potentially unlawful activity or activity which threatens the network or our service, or which violates our terms and conditions which you must agree to if you sign up for our service.

Additional privacy protections for children
TalkTalk joins the industry in recognizing that children, including young teens, may not be in a position to make informed choices about personal information requested online.

Accordingly, TalkTalk does not target children or teenagers (younger than 18) for collection of information online. TalkTalk does not solicit or collect individually identifiable information targeted at children and under 18 teenagers and in order to sign up for the service, a customer must be 18 years or over.

Finally, TalkTalk encourages parents to take an active role to protect the privacy and security of their children, and to prevent inappropriate use of information about their children. TalkTalk supports the use of parental control technologies.
